Material Matters: Office Dress Code Etiquette
As part of our PA training we’re happy to provide a breakdown of basic office dress code manners - for example, what does “smart casual” really mean? How casual is “casual Friday”? If the women can wear vest-tops…can the men too? A PA course will give you the skills to ask these questions in your office environment with confidence.
A good PA training course will teach you about work “cultures”, by this we mean the particular standards and expectations within different fields. For example, a creative workplace environment is likely to be far more relaxed in terms of office wear than, perhaps, a bank or solicitors.
In Japan, workers (especially teachers) are encouraged to travel to work in full formal attire regardless of their position, and then change into casual clothes during the work day. At the end of the day they must change back to travel home. Conversely, in America, workers are urged to walk to work in trainers to promote healthy, happy feet (in Japan this would be severely frowned upon).
Essentially, the rule of thumb seems to be that you can always dress down later. It’s better to take off your tie rather than tear your hair out for not wearing one!
