Basic Grammar And Spelling For Every PA

posted on: August 5th, 2010
We all leave school having studied basic spelling and grammar. However, it’s worth taking a refresher course to jog the old grey-matter as part of your PA training.

Of the many qualities of a good PA, comprehensive knowledge of grammar and writing skills (beyond simply what the computer’s editing software tells you) is highly desired. On our PA courses we encourage you to take the necessary steps to achieving the highest level of accuracy within the field of writing skills.

Here’s a breakdown of what you should hold in your writing skill set:

The Basic Mechanics of Sentence Structure

This should include a thorough grasp of punctuation, for example, use of commas, semicolons, apostrophes, quotation marks, capitalisation etc.

Spelling covers the areas of appropriate verb conventions (tense), possessives, plurals, and appropriate general word usage.

Sentence fragments, compound sentences and so on should also be second nature to you.

Content

The ideal PA should display a clear and concise approach to subject matter, obviously defined salient points (including evidence where appropriate), analytical focus throughout every writing piece, standard documentation techniques (e.g. templates, bullet points, letter formatting etc.) and obvious deliberation pertaining to style, organisation, and research throughout content.

On our PA training courses, we’ll help you to get your head around these concepts once more.

Writing skills can be developed into an instinctive quality, so don’t panic if it all sounds a little daunting! A little PA training could be all you need to boost both your confidence and writing skills!
