Minute Taking: Quick Tips

posted on: August 17th, 2010
Our comprehensive minute taking course (which can be taken as part of a general PA training course) is a great feather for your skill-cap. It’s a skill possessed by the best PAs, and a proficient ability could be the aspect on your CV that takes you to the next level of your career as a PA.

Here are a few tips from our minute taking course to instantly perk up your minute taking skills:

Take your time – Timing is everything, so arrive early to any meetings – it looks very unprofessional for a PA to rush into the room last of all. Set up your work area in plenty of time. After the meeting, you need to allow time for any quick questions you may have pertaining to names, terms etc. You should also be writing up your minutes as soon as possible, whilst the meeting is still fresh in your mind.

Templates – As our PA courses will teach you, a key element of your job is continuity and proving a proficient level of regularity that can be trusted by your bosses and co-workers. Templates don’t need to be over-the-top or fancy, just coherent and written in the same style as much as possible.

Avoid Bias – There’s no need for you to take your boss's “side” during a meeting. One of the basics that our minute taking course will teach you is the art of neutrality. It’s helpful to no-one for you to write with an agenda.
